The Honda BR-V is Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI)’s entry into the competitive sporty-looking crossover market. Although it has the characteristics of a crossover with its bold and beefy exterior. However, its major advantage against the competitors in crossover class is the number of occupants it can accommodate—7 to be exact. Its recent update also elevated the BR-V’s appeal to discerning Filipino car buyers.
In terms of technology, the BR-V is equipped with features that are not only convenient to the driver, but also to its passengers. Under the hood of the BR-V lies a 1.5L i-VTEC gasoline engine with Honda Earth Dreams Technology's continuously variable transmission (CVT). It can put out a maximum power of 119 hp and 145 Nm of torque, which makes it the most powerful in its class.
Launch
The Honda BR-V entered the Philippine automotive market in September 2016, showcased by the brand at the Philippine International Motor Show. It’s the first of its class—bold MPV-Crossovers that aim to appeal as an SUV with the practicality of MPVs.
In 2019, Honda Cars Philippines refreshed the BR-V with small updates mainly with its exterior and interior design. It was also given Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for seamless smartphone integration.
In November of 2022, Honda Philippines launched the second generation of the BR-V featuring four variants and two transmission options. The 7-seater would also get the new 1.5-liter DOHC naturally aspirated gasoline engine available in the Honda City and Honda HR-V.
Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
The Honda BR-V has a unibody chassis. It has five doors, including the rear hatch, and it can seat seven. The engine is situated in from powering the front wheels. Underneath the BR-V’s hood is a 1.5-liter DOHC naturally-aspirated gasoline engine that produces 119 hp and 145 Nm torque and is mated to either a CVT or a 6-speed manual transmission.
All variants of the Honda BR-V have MacPherson struts at the front and a torsion beam axle at the rear. The front brakes are ventilated discs while the back has drums.
The Honda BR-V features the brand’s latest technology available to vehicles of its price point. It comes with a 7-inch infotainment system that comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities. Bluetooth and USB connectivity are standard across all models of the BR-V. Automatic air conditioning is also available for the 7-seater but only for the higher variants, lower models get manual air conditioning instead. Push start is also a standard feature as well for the BR-V with the VX and V models getting smart entry. High variants also come with a remote start feature which is not found in the S MT model. Walk away auto lock is also available, however, this is only for the VX and V variants.
Exterior
The latest version of the Honda BR-V receives the brand’s latest design language along with a more SUV-like front clip. As standard, all models of the BR-V get LED headlights and taillights with the VX model getting an auto on/off feature. LED daytime running lights are also another standard feature throughout the BR-V variant range. All models except for the S MT get LED foglights. As for the grille, the VX gets Gloss Black while the lower models get a matte black finish. A sharkfin fin antenna is also standard across the model range with the S MT getting a micro pole antenna. 17-inch wheels alloy wheels are found on the VX, V, and S models while the S MT gets 16-inch steel wheels with hub caps.
Interior
The Honda BR-V gets a more modern cabin with minimalist styling similar to what you would find in its newer siblings. All models come with a one-push start system, and keyless entry with smart entry being available for the VX and V variants. Both the VX and V get automatic air conditioning while the lower variant S gets manual air conditioning controls. The higher variants of the Honda BR-V get leather seats while the S models only come with high-grade fabric available. The same can be said for the interior accents of the vehicle as leather is standard for the VX and V while plastic replaces these accents in the lower models.
Safety
The Honda BR-V now gets access to Honda Sensing technology. However, this is only for the top-of-the-line VX model. As for its standard features, the Honda 7-seater gets speed-sensing door locks, dual front airbags, side airbags, ABS with EBD, vehicle stability assist, a reverse camera with guidelines, hill start assist, security alarm, an immobilizer, and ISOFIX anchor points. The VX and V models also get access to corner sensors and parking sensors. The VX model gets extra safety features such as side curtain airbags, lane watch camera, and a seat belt reminder for the 3rd row.
As for its Honda Sensing suite of safety technology, the VX comes with adaptive cruise control, auto high beam, collision mitigation braking system, lane keep assist, road departure mitigation, and lane departure warning.

Feels "matagtag" at the back part of the vehicle. Not to mention it seems like it has "thin walls" because you can easily hear the noise outside.
Passengers on the 3rd row should be seated sideways and if vehicle is full of passengers, there's not enough cargo space (i.e getaway to province).
Plain/ basic air-con look at the middle row like the one you see in uv express. Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto like Maps feature need to be plugged in to the cellphone to work (no wireless capability). Bluetooth connection solely for audio/music and calls only.
Manual seat adjustments for all. Topple/ easy folding (1 step) of middle seat to enter the last row.

At first i cannot feel the power of the cvt. First time for me driving automatic car. I only feel the power when i was loaded with 7 people (including small children) i like it more driving when shes loaded.
Fuel economy is decent. And the looks is what it differs from the competitor.
